Our Practical Commitment to Kerikeri and Beyond

Moon Gate Villa is dedicated to responsible tourism in Kerikeri, New Zealand. We work to protect the area’s unique natural and cultural heritage through practical sustainability actions every day.

Environmental Stewardship

• Recycling & Composting: We recycle plastic, paper, glass, and metals and compost kitchen and garden waste on-site.
• Water Conservation: Rainwater tanks supply our villa; water-saving devices are installed throughout. Guests are encouraged to limit shower time and reuse towels.
• Energy Efficiency: All lighting is energy-efficient LED; appliances are carefully chosen for low power use.
• Eco-friendly Cleaning: We use biodegradable, toxin-free cleaning products and sustainable guest amenities, prioritising dispenser refills over single-use packaging.

Community & Conservation

• Local Collaboration: We support native bush restoration and local walking tracks with Vision Kerikeri Landcare.
• Education & Outreach: Guests receive information about local conservation and eco-friendly attractions.
• Local Sourcing: Our breakfast menu features organic, free-range produce from local growers. We grow herbs and fruit on site and use local artisan suppliers wherever possible.

Cultural Sustainability & Manaakitanga

• Māori Values: We honour manaakitanga (hospitality) and tiaki (care) through sharing Māori language, customs, and stories.
• Community Engagement: We aim to partner with local marae and iwi on environmental and cultural projects.

Guest Involvement

• Guests are invited to contribute by sorting recyclables, conserving water and energy, reusing towels, and supporting local conservation and businesses.
• We provide guides on sustainability and eco-attractions to enrich their stay.
